Amit Mitra Dear ALL, While searching for Bengal Academy, Yangon I was thrilled to come across this site. I was born in THINGANGYUN near Yangon but, Mr Palani, I have no memory of it! I studied at Bengal Academy upto Class VI and my father Aswini Mitra was the Headmaster there before we left for Kolkata in 1959. So, Somen da, it seems, you are 3 years my senior. I knew Subodh da (Barman) and I often had long chats with him on the phone before he became ill. Amitava, I guess, your mum Manisha di, your mamu Prabir da and also Ramu da are my seniors. Besides, like Subodh da they all probably studied Maths under the tutelage of my father. Ramu da, even though I was only a child (9-10) then I knew your father as he was in the School Committee (as President?). Soon after arriving in Kolkata my father accepted a post as Headmaster at a Bengali High school in Margherita, Assam. Rakshit Sir also worked as a senior teacher at this school for a short time when my father was headmaster there. By then I’ve already finished my school. Swapan, I am sorry to hear that your father has died. I pray for his soul to rest in peace. I also take this opportunity to let you know that my father died in Nov 2010. He was 95 then. My mum also died in Jan 2011. I graduated from St Edmund’s College, Shillong. I studied at Manchester Univ for my Elect & Electron Engg degree. I worked as system engineer for 10 years and then changed my career to be a lecturer at Wigan & Leigh College, England for the next 24 years. I am now enjoying a retired life spending my time writing poetry, reciting and reading various materials at our Ramakrishna Vivekananda Mission, Bolton. I have 2 sons, 1 is married and I have 2 grandchildren both still very young. Amit (Kumkum) Note. Manoranjan Das, are u related to Tapan? Plz let us know. Sadhan Gupta, are u related to Mr Ravi, Mr Sunil Mr Paltu and Ms Minu Gupta? Plz let us know.
